Why, yes, that would be me with the official title page for my thesis signed by all three committee members.

I have to turn in the original copy to Graduate Studies tomorrow, so even though I'm keeping photocopies (duh), I wanted to have the moment captured. No using this to forge my professors' signatures, now.

Thank you. Nothing prettier than a signature you needed to get. :)

Yay!

Rah, rah! Go you!

And I trust we will be treated to an on-line copy of the completed thesis...? (What IS the title of it, anyway?)

The title is:
Linguistic Etiquette in the U.S.A.: A Sociolinguistic Study of the Linguistic Advice Given in American Etiquette Books and Language Criticism Manuals, 1865-1940

And, goodness, I don't know why anyone would want to read it, but I suppose I can put it online sometime if there's really a demand. If there's not some sort of copyright clash with Grad Studies (don't know why there would be)..

Congratulations! You're both pretty damn awesome. Well, I can vouch for you, anyway, but I'm sure the thesis rocks too. ;) What's the topic?

Thank you. ;)
Well, the title is "Linguistic Etiquette in the U.S.A.: A Sociolinguistic Study of the Linguistic Advice Given in American Etiquette Books and Language Criticism Manuals, 1865-1940." Wherein I examine changing rules of politeness as expressed through language use (formal titles, euphemism, etc.) and suchlike. Not meant to be fascinating or anything, but they signed it and that's all I ask.

Thank you - indeed it has, indeed it has. Though, I'll feel better once I've given the little colloquium talk about the project (which is sometime in early June). It's just for the sake of letting everyone see what we've worked on, and can't do us any harm, but I won't be well and truly done with the thing till after that. There's always something...

Congrats.

May I ask what your thesis will be?

Thank ye. It's about the language styles suggested in etiquette books from 1865 to 1940. I put a paragraph summarizing it here, (http://www.livejournal.com/users/lemonlye/18907.html) back in December. Not quite as much fun to read as slashy parodies, alas. ;)

Hey congratulations! I'm so happy it all worked out for you. It's just proof that worrying works, because 90% of what we worry about doesn't happen. ;) And your thesis sounds so complex you smarty you. I for one would love to read it!

Thanks! Hehe, yes, I suppose it must have been all the worrying that finally got it done. :)

Maybe sometime I'll post it in webpage format for you crazy people who actually want to see it...

You go gurl!

Congrats on a splendiferous achievement!! I still remember when my mom did her Masters while teaching, raising us, etc...and I stand in awe of anyone and everyone who actually manages to get this far without collapsing in a little heap, lol!

Would love to read the thesis sometime, if you make it available...sounds very interesting!

Thank you! Doing the Master's while raising kids would be much more difficult. Still, once I got into the program I realized there was no particular magic to getting through it all. Just the regular amount of jumping through hoops. :)
