From the wrapper of a Dove Promises chocolate, Valentine's Edition:

"Sleep under the stars tonight."

Thank you, o chocolate, but this is February, as you well know, this being your special pink Valentine's Day set of wrappers-'n-messages. Most of us in the Northern Hemisphere, should we sleep under the stars, would freeze.

Unless, of course, they mean "Bag yourself some celebrity lovers (and be a bottom)," in which case, nice work if you can get it.

That's the best thing I've heard anyone say about Valentine's candy in a while.

Candy always deserves discussion, I say. Especially when it's trying to talk to us.

I'm often torn between wondering if the many subtle ( or, not so subtle ) double-entendres in advertising come about because of conscious intent, or simple cluelessness.

Alas, I'm cynical enough to lean towards the latter explanation.

-10F wind chill at the moment. Pardon me while I set the house on fire for a little more warmth.

Yeah, most of the ones on the Dove wrappers are pretty banal, so I assume they meant nothing truly amusing. But we can have fun with them anyway.

Brrr! I thought that groundhog forecast(ed?) an early spring.

I've found that some of our local newspaper headline writers seem to have a fine sense of the subtle double-entendre. At the very least, they occur often enough that I don't think it can be coincidence.

The groundhog did indeed forecast an early Spring. Nonetheless, we have thousands of schoolkids home today because the diesel fuel for the buses now has the consistency of gelatin. I have to sympathize with the kids - they get a day off from school, but they can't go outside because it's too dangerous.

Mine said "Find your passion." I thought I already had.

Namely, dark chocolate? :) Well, that's one of mine, anyway.

Hmm, I'll take one Orlando Bloom, one Johnny Depp and one Jason Isaacs to go, please. Nothing else will make me go sleep outside. -30 Celsius. Eeegh.

Sounds pleasant--the boys, I mean. :) Heavy, though. They may have to take turns or you'd be suffocated.

Well, a generous interpretation would be, one doesn't even have to be a bottom or engage in Nookie. One just has to find stars (plural, two per chocolate fancier) and sleep underneath them. For warmth. It's me for a blanket of Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman tonight.

It's true--you could just sleep beneath them for no particular specified reason, or for warmth; a variation of the "three dog night" concept. :)

LOL!

I really like the dark chocolates by Dove. They have some of the most amusing little sayings inside the wrapper....although a few of them have actually been inspiring. ("Be fearless" is one of my favourites!) :-)

The chocolate is some of my favorite, in the "not too expensive" world. And yes--no living in fear! :)

I just bought my wife a pound of various unspeakably delicious chocolates from our local candy emporium.

I have this dreadful fear that I'm going to have "just one more" so often that there won't be any left on Valentine's Day. ;-)

Man, I went over to the drugstore and the Target this morning (they're in the same shopping center) to snap up Valentine candy on discount, but it was already moved out to make room for the Easter stuff! Can you believe?

On the other hand: mm, Cadbury Mini Eggs!

I guess we lucked out - there was still some V-Day candy on sale locally. We now have several additional pounds of chocolate.

Mmmmm.... love the Cadbury eggs. But it's so easy to go overboard when you have the mini eggs - when you eat a regular-sized one, you *know* it's a meal. ;-)
