Taking a page from [livejournal.com profile] kenshi's book when he faced the important "To chop or not to chop" decision...

Clearly this question requires photographic evidence and the elicitation of short essays. A poll isn't very useful: I want to read your actual reasoning. So, look under the cut at the photos, and tell me: long hair (French-twisted), or short-n-sassy? And why do you say so?

Thank you.

French twist.

Oh...and the reason is, because you have a nice neckline and I think pulling hair up in that fashion looks very professional and feminine.

She's got a nice everything from what I've seen! ;)

It is hard to say, you should post pics of both the front and the back of both styles. I am only half saying that to get you post more pictures. Xenedra is right on saying you have a lovely neckline, but both styles show it off. Hmmm. Yeah, I need more pictures before I can decide.

Hehehe...*blush* You're such a flatterer, you.

OK, I added one more pic from about ten minutes ago, of the twist from the front. Couldn't find any of the short hair from the back, since that isn't a common photo pose.

It's just the truth!

Yes, now that I see it I think the french twist/long hair is the way to go.

Definitely the French twist. It looks so elegant. Plus, the line of your neck is fabulous, and you certainly don't want short hair to cover that up. It's feminine, but totally classy. Plus, it makes people more inclined to listen to you (don't ask me why, it's just been in my experience that female authority figures with long hair that's pulled back get more respect than those with short hair. Maybe that's just in the south.)

I say long.

I say this because I went short and sassy and people kept calling me "sir" so now I've been growing my hair out for...two years in September. And it's only just now long enough to pull all of it up or French braid it.

Hehe...yeah, when I went super-short (like Hugh Grant's floppy hairstyle) a number of years back, someone was heard to say, upon looking at my photo, "Who's the cute guy?" Well, at least I was a *cute* guy, I guess....

hmmmm.... tough call. Both look good. I think I'm going to lean toward the twist though. Again, I have a bit of a weakness for longer hair. Apart from that, I say the twist because:

1) when it's up like that, it looks very nice yet is still professional. And if any formal events come along, it can be made to look very elegant.

2) you can still wear it down when you want to

3) I think the longer hair will be generally more versatile. It leaves you more options as far as style goes depending on your mood. When it's short, there's only so much that can be done with it.

That wasn't really an essay, but hopefully I've explained my rationale reasonably well. Short is definitely cute, but long still takes it in my opinion.

Long time reader, first time poster...;)

If I may (from someone who you don't know...), I vote for the short/sassy. I say this because you have the face to pull off both looks and a French braid, day in and day out...well, hell, that's f'n time consuming and it's the same look, every day, you can't really vary it. At least with a short/shoulder length "do" it can look professional and somewhat varied from day to day, as you style it a bit differently.

Just my $1.98.

Oh, I can't do a French braid. I'm not that talented! Just a French twist. But thank you for saying I could pull off either. That's comforting, at any rate. :)

You look good in both styles, but it's up to you. ^_^

If it were me, though, I'd go with the French twist. Assuming I knew how to do a French twist. Which I don't. (I am a sad excuse for a girl.) ^_^;;

The others are right: You've got a really nice neck and can pull off either style with panache (and I sure hope I used that word the way I meant it!). Basically, I think the short hair looks younger, while the pulled-back long hair demands more respect. As the longer hair gives you more options (down or curled or whatever for personal/fun times), I'd stick with that.

Or you could always get it cornrowed if you want to go all 80s Bo Derek... ;-)

French twist. You have such lovely cheekbones and a very classic face that I think the long updo adds grace and maturity, where the shorter one looks much less chic.

I like both - you look very cute with short hair, but it's more of a casual look than the pleat, which isn't perhaps what you want for work.

I love the short look, it's very cute, suits you, and is the sort of style I personally like.

Oh, most definitely long. Reason? Because it's so much more versatile than short hair! You can french twist or braid, loose or ponytailed, pinned up with stragglers curling down the back, etc. Short hair is just...short. You can do a little lame ponytail, pin up the sides, sort of, or leave it down. BorING! Besides, you look prettier with long hair. Short hair on you drops you from lovely to cutesy.

Oh, long. Definitely long. It's a very elegant hairstyle. I am known as a Hair Evangelist, having grown my own hair down to my, er, hips. Y'know, it'd be cool if everybody did that. But I think long hair looks really good on you specifically.

No comment about whether to cut or not, I'm staying out of it (although I personally cut mine recently from waist length to the short chop in my icon and I love it).

Just an observation that your ears in the second picture look amazingly Elvish.

Now that's a compliment! :D (The Elvish ears.) Thank you.

Ahh, yes, I've gone that short before, from nearly that long, and I loved how easy it was to take care of. I'm always tempted by that. Maybe this time I'll give slightly long hair a chance, but someday I bet I'll go back to short...

I too have been faced with this dilemma... as you know, I cut my long hair into a sassy little bobbed number, but I've recently allowed that to grow out to the point where I can now do french twists and the like (this is so I can garden and do housework in the swollen Virginia summers while still looking somewhat put together). I vote for letting it grow until - say October - then cutting it again into the shorter number again.

My only problem with long hair (on either of us) is that we end up looking a bit too granola for our own good... like hippied-out-of-work ceramics teachers. :)

From: [identity profile] mollyringle.livejournal.com
Hehehe. Indeed--my main concern with the long hair is that it will look dowdy (or, worse yet, hippie) when loose. But being able to pull it back and honestly keep it out of the face without a head scarf is a good feeling, which you can't get once it's too short. I think I've decided for more or less what you recommend: letting it grow for a while to see how it goes, and then someday chopping it again.

This time I'm going to have lots more layers than I've had before with the long hair, so hopefully it will allow for some waviness (or a supermodel-mane, if possible) that I didn't get with the all-one-length-with-bangs thing I used to have, back in the days.

both are great on you vis a vis the well-covered neck facet. the updo is very good for work, btw. down seems a bit easier/better/sweeter for the day-to-day.however, I'm curious how shoulder length or long would look on you?

I'm with you on the shameless vanity thing: my hair is nearly one length and about an inch or two above my bra strap in the back and still growing, so I'm debating how much texture to give it when I get my next cut.... >_

Here's a question. Which do you like? Here's another. Which is less trouble?

I'd say the short, but from idealogical grounds. (I get a haircut when I have to, and have them take a lot off so it will be a while before I have to go again.) The French twist does look more sophisticated, but both styles (I'm being terribly lookist here) emphasize your neckline and the delicacy of your face.

Thus, the response from a perfect stranger. :)

That's okay; I'm welcoming input from strangers and anyone. :)

And I must admit the short is less trouble, and in some ways I like it more. Then other times I like having the long mane, so the "Which do you like?" question is the difficult one.

However, I suspect I'll lose my patience with the long hair one of these months, and tell them to take off six inches. It's been the cycle so far.

That's the trouble with hair. I used to have hair down to nearly my waist, and it was way too high maintenance for my taste. And at that mostely I braided it back and put a hat on it. My current theory is, whatever takes the least time and the smallest effort. Some days I'm surprised I bother to put on pants.
