Miss me?
Husband and I are back safe and sound, and with lots of spiffy new memories and experiences. (If you can't remember or never knew, we were in England and Scotland on vacation for the last 2 weeks.) I'll post a write-up with pictures soon, but for now I think some sleep is required in order to counter the jet lag - we have a mere 8-hour time difference to make up.

Here's one to tide you over, of us two squares at Loch Ness. Hey, it was cold and windy, and that's the only excuse I'll make as to appearances and dress.

In the meantime, I'll answer questions if you have any. Also, you need to tell me if anything interesting happened in the last two weeks, because, really, you'll be doing me a favor. I'm not even going to attempt to read the last 800 friends' pages, or whatever it would take to catch up. So tell me here: how are you?

I wondered why you were suddenly so quiet! Welcome home! I'm jealous of your trip, though. I don't have a huge burning desire to see continental Europe, but the U.K. has always held a fascination for me.

Will you be posting photos of castles and villages and such? I hope so!

The UK is pretty easy to deal with compared to continental Europe (I imagine), since it's English-speaking and all. Go if you get the chance! But beware, the dollar is painfully weak against the pound right now. :)

Oh yes, I have about a hundred photos that I just need to organize and resize and put online. Some would make lovely desktops...

Oh Molly, my envy defies being put into words.

Basically, you have done what I have wanted desperately to do for years and years. I haven't been to the UK since I was six weeks old when I was on display to my various Scottish/English/Welsh relatives (so I don't remember any of my visit, of course, and if there was anything to remember, it probably would just have been quaint old aunts pinching my face), and if I could have one thing in the world (other than a hobbit) it would be a plane ticket to the UK. First chance I get, I'm taking up a research position at the University of Glasgow (that's the dream).

Loch Ness looks absolutely beautiful. Looking forward to more photos and some exciting anecdotes. ;)

Welcome back. How was the food in Scotland? Did anyone say anything about your accent? (Personally, I love it that when I travel abroad suddenly I'm the one who "talks funny". I think it's a hoot.)

I thought the food was actually pretty good. Though I wasn't too keen on the "black pudding," nor do I want to know what was in it. *shudder* In general, Britain is getting with the times in their cooking, and being more healthful and gourmet about it.

Nope, nobody commented on our accents. Though one Scottish tour guide did ask if he should fake an American accent for us so we could understand him better. We vehemently declined, of course. :)

I knew about the blood part, and it didn't bother me too much. If you're going to eat meat anyway, why not blood? But that particular blood pudding/black pudding wasn't very appealing. Maybe other places make it better...

Welcome back! Did you trek about visiting Improving Literary and Historical Sites, or did you spend all your time hanging out in pubs and leading impressionable persons astray?

You didn't miss much. Universal courtesy, kindliness, and good fellowship have prevailed in the LotR fandom. And video files of the long-suppressed Frodo bubble bath scene were released onto the net in Bulgaria. Apart from that, same old same old.

I'm more the geekly Literary/Historical type, but pubs are often the only places open for meals, so we spent a fair amount of time in those too. Most atmospheric.
