If you don't read my other journal, but do have interest in sexual personae like Camille Paglia wrote about, then you might want to see today's entry in which I decide that Elijah Wood's Frodo is a Western-classical "beautiful boy."

(Read it here. Complete with illustrations!)

Mostly I'm just proud of myself for writing something resembling a Lit paper for the first time in possibly years. Heh. Yay, pretension!

I do remember that, and was thinking of it when typing that post. :) Something about the description of Orlando Bloom as a smooth, hairless, pretty boy does stick in the mind. Hee.

Hee :) I admit, Orlando's not my type, but I can see why he appeals.

"Visionary idealism is a male art form." - SP, p117 [I think this is interesting given your analysis of Frodo as presented in a film that is largely "male" in scope and production. Could a female conceptualize Frodo as such?]

"He (the beautiful boy) occupies an ideal space between male and female, effect and affect. . . . He is, I suggested, a secular saint." - SP, p121 [Do you view Frodo as a secular saint?]
