Idiots.

I'd like to know, just out of curiosity, what motivates people walking outside at 2 a.m. in a quiet residential neighborhood to scream, shriek, yell, shout, slam car doors, and laugh loudly. ("Woooo" seems to be the most popular thing to yell. How eloquent.)

Oh yeah...it's probably alcohol.

But that's no excuse. When you have to sleep with the windows open because it was near 100 during the day and is still about 80 in the house, people yelling like idiots has a certain way of waking you right up.

So am I curmudgeonly for wanting to call the cops next time they do this? (Yelling "Shut the fuck up" out the window is appealing too, but somehow I think that would just encourage them.) Local cops have very little to do; they'd probably send three cars over. Or should I just be happy to live in such a joyous youthful town, and reach for the earplugs? Teach idiots a lesson, or ignore idiots? A constant dilemma in my life.

But that's the ONLY reason I'm up at this hour. Oh well; a rather pretty California sunrise out there, and only about 60 degrees at the moment. I'll enjoy it, grumbling all the time, while it lasts.

A mixed herd. Interesting. Normally, one would have to set up a blind at a fraternity party or dance club to observe significant intermixing of the types in groups. It's somewhat unusual to see them mixed in the wild ourside of their normal habitat. You should publish.
