..."TLA" being, of course, "Three Letter Acronym."

OK, I won't say much, because I have to make tomorrow's lunch, and anyway your friends list is already full of people babbling about the Two Towers DVD. But a few basic things need to be said about that, now that we've watched mostly everything:

1) "Tree-herder. A shepherd of the forest!" - possibly my favorite line delivery in the whole film. Dominic just sounds so stoked. Tree-herder! Sweet! YEAH!

2) Watched the preview for the extended edition and was immediately put out. Reaction was basically, "Hrm; well, now I want that one." Looks like they answered a lot of our complaints about the theatrical version, though, which is cool. (Huorns, for one; Faramir's back-story, for another; Ent-draught, for a third.)

3) We gave the film the MST3K treatment while watching it. This proved fun, and even provided some stuff I could've put in the parody, if I'd thought of it. "Where was Gondor, when my car broke down and I had to walk four miles home? Where was Gondor, when I was moving and had to carry five bookcases by myself?..."

4) For the ROTK preview, I think the word is "Squeeee!" I don't want to jinx anything (like Theoden kept doing at Helm's Deep - "Is this all they can conjure?" "No one's ever got past this wall; it'll hold." "I'm sure I'll live through the next movie." Oh wait...)...but I daresay they're going to Get It Right for Film the Third.

All right, enough random capitalizing. Need sleep. Goodnight!

Another big thing they're going to answer: Fangorn's revenge on the Uruk Hai!! Yeah!!

Also, not that this was really a *problem* with the first, per se--but I'm stoked about that rope scene that's gonna be added back in. "Watch as Frodo Baggins takes his falling to new heights!" Good angst from Sam for a moment, at least, and no doubt at least an "Are you all right, Mr. Frodo?" when he finds out Frodo only fell about three feet.

Incidentally, I think I would actually pay money to watch you and your husband MST3K a Lord of the Rings film. I swear you've got to be some of the funniest people out there. ^_~

"Watch as Frodo Baggins takes his falling to new heights!"

*snicker* Exactly! He didn't fall on his rear nearly enough in this film, compared to the first. Let's hope the extra scenes remedy that. Also I'm hoping we get to see the rope untie itself in a mysterious Elven way.

Hee; thanks. We just do it for kicks, though of course we'd be willing to do it for money if anyone was paying. We ended up making fun of Legolas a disproportionate amount, mostly because his lines tend to be of the Enigmatically Elven sort. "That is one of the Mearas, unless my eyes are cheated by some spell." (Non-book-readers, or even just casual book readers: "Huh? One of the what? What the hell is he talking about? That's just a horse, right?") "A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled this night." Yeah, uh...because, uh, the blood evaporates and stains the atmosphere red; right. Everyone knows that. It's basic science, or something.

Figured Aragorn ought to say something like, "Look, I pay you to shoot stuff, and look pretty, in that order. Please stop talking." Hmm, maybe I'll just include that line in the ROTK parody. :D

I love that bit with Theoden. It's like, "Hey Teddy, just in case you didn't notice, they're KICKING YOUR ASS." And then he FINALLY goes to fight after like 3 hours and gets hurt two minutes later. It's good to be the king.

Hee hee. He kind of goes into mood swings about the whole thing, come to think of it. Before the fight it's "What would you have me do? We don't have any allies anymore. Where was Gondor? Where's the horse and the rider? What has become of us?", etc. Then during the fight he gets all confident for some reason, as noted. Then he gets his one wound and goes back into, "So much death; what can anyone do?" I can see why Aragorn was getting exasperated. :)

Ach. I must watch it again now. I keep thinking seeing it four times in the space of three days would have satisfied me, but then someone on LJ starts gushing about it, and I have to watch it again. *g*

"Where was Gondor, when my car broke down and I had to walk four miles home? Where was Gondor, when I was moving and had to carry five bookcases by myself?..."

Dude, where was Gondor when I had to carry those boxes of recyclables from the office to the parking lot?

Heheh.

I know, and where was Gondor when I had to work overtime to finish those extra files the other day? Jeez.

And where was Gondor when the carpet cleaners came to the office and I had to move all the furniture around?

Okay, I'm going to be applying this to everything I do now, and it's all your fault. Hee.

Ah, I see, this is just one of those icon-wankage comments! :P (That could be a handy one, though, really.)

If you honestly think I needed to be calmed down from this little post, then, honey, you ain't seen nothing yet. Just you wait till December; just you wait. :)

I find that the only time I can keep from giving the MST3K treatment to these movies is when I watch them by myself. :)

Yes...I can be deadly serious and emotional when by myself. But the heckling is fun with an audience. :)

As someone who hasn't read all the books, the RotK preview was way beyond "Squeeee!" and into "Holy [bleep]ing crap, IS IT DECEMBER YET?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!oneoneone?"

And ROTF (not Return of the Frodo...) at your "Where was Gondor?" alternatives *g*

Hmm...need to get an LotR icon...

From: [identity profile] mollyringle.livejournal.com
Orlando Bloom counts as an LOTR icon, I'd say. :)

Return of the Frodo...heheh. So, ROFL could mean "Return of the 'Frodo Lives'"? (i.e., the "Frodo Lives" movement, wherein everyone started putting that slogan on their T-shirts and stuff...)

If you've not read the books, then you're in for some emotional shock. Most of it ends up okay, but not all of it...that's all I'll say...unless you want spoilers and all that.

Shhh! Don't stifle the icon muse! LOL ;)

I'm avoiding spoilers as much as possible. I do know a few things that happen, but mostly I'll be going into it biting my nails nervously (for the story, not the way it's being presented, I'm *sure* that'll be fantastic). I'll be sure to bring the Kleenex... perhaps I should purchase some stock as well?

While I'm not entirely sure what 'MST3K' is, I'm reminded of the time my friend and I went to see it the second time in the movies - we spent the whole time doing that Lord of the Pants thing (he tried to take the pants from Frodo!), saying 'SNOG! SNOG!' at all the uber-slash-chemistry moments, and probably really pissing off the guy in front of us. Good times.

MST3K = "Mystery Science Theater 3000," geeky little TV show in which a few guys would show really bad movies (usually of the '50s sci-fi genre), heckling them all the while. Quite hilarious at times.

And, yes! We did some of the "pants" lines for this one too. My favorites are:
"If we let him go, he'll pants us in our sleep!"
"Give me your pants, horsemaster, and I shall give you mine."
And, of course, "Nothing ever dampens your pants, does it, Sam?"

I also whispered "Kiss him!" a couple times, mostly at Sam and Frodo, but my husband requested that I stop that. :)

My favorite part of the ROTK preview was Peter Jackson and all the other creative types saying over and over "we've definitely saved the best for last." Aw, yeah!

My other favorite bits of the extras were learning that Christopher Lee reads LOTR once a year (!), and the side-by-side Andy Serkis/Gollum stuff. And Peter Jackson playing the bus driver in Sean Astin's short.

Indeed, I fully believe them about the third film being the best. Better than the other two combined, if we're to believe Elijah - but, then, he's slightly prone to exaggeration. :)

Heheh...PJ was so cute in the "making of" for Sean's short film. "Sean almost brought me to tears a few times..."

hey, did you watch the cast commentary on FOTR?? I love Elijah but if one more thing was his "favorite part" i was going to scream. The four of them (Dom, Billy, Sean Astin, and Elijah...duh) in one room for three hours commenting on the flick made a couple of my bad days better.

Yep, I watched it. Didn't notice Elijah's "favorite part" thing, but I did notice that he called everything "amazing" or "fantastic." His favorite words, apparently. But, yeah, a great time in general. Can't wait to hear the TTT commentary.

My husband, his friends and I all watched Wednesday, will full MST3K treatment. Thursday I watched the special features. Yesterday I watched the movie again with my children, no heckling allowed, just answered questions like "why doesn't he just give the ring to Gollum?" (of course this is from the kid who thought Frodo should have just chucked the ring in the river at the end of Fellowship...)

IS IT DECEMBER YET?????
