Frodo/Sam Hollywood ending?
Apr. 29th, 2003 10:21 amTHIS IS A JOKE, but I know some of you (Frodo-Sam shippers especially) might like it all the same:
LOTR fans annoyed at changes to the Final Film’s finale
I wasn't expecting to see that Photoshop job. It made me burst into giggles. I think I better go save it to the hard drive.

Date: 2003-04-29 10:49 pm (UTC)Well, I'm still holding out hope that it does, myself.
"Mr. Frodo! You're alive!" *dip, kiss*
"Mr. Frodo! We destroyed the Ring!" *dip, kiss*
"Mr. Frodo! I'm getting married!" *dip, kiss* (OK, that one would be a little odd...)
Hmmm...
Date: 2003-04-30 07:12 am (UTC)On the secret, slash-o-rific special, special edition of the trilogy, available only to people who know who to talk to.
"Mr. Frodo! You're alive!" *dip, kiss*
::wipes away the tear::
"Mr. Frodo! We destroyed the Ring!" *dip, kiss*
... followed by them getting the heck out of Mount Doom... and finding a nice soft patch of grass for a fade to black.
"Mr. Frodo! I'm getting married!" *dip, kiss* (OK, that one would be a little odd...)
Hmmm. Yeah, that one would be could be a last desperate kiss. Or how about "Mr. Frodo! We're home! My garden!" *dip, kiss*
Re: Hmmm...
Date: 2003-04-30 11:48 pm (UTC)I really, really hope I can get a bootleg of that.
Damn, at this rate, I'm going to be very disappointed if they don't kiss at least once during ROTK. But then, I could make quite the long list of Things That Will Disappoint Me If They Aren't in ROTK. And I'll love the movie anyway, of course.

Same here. I can't see why they wouldn't, that final kiss was filmed, I think. When FotR was being released, Sir Ian made a comment that said there was a lot of affection displayed between Frodo and Sam, and a kiss was filmed. I'm assuming that's the kiss before the Gray Havens. You know, the part where I'll be reduced to a mass of tears (if I'm not already). Let's hope the things we'd like to see in RotK *are* in the movie.
Re: Hmmm...
Date: 2003-05-01 10:06 pm (UTC)I remember seeing him say that. Something like, "I *think* you will see them kiss." Just to avoid getting my hopes up, I figured maybe it meant on the cheek or forehead. For instance, maybe Sam kisses Frodo on the forehead sometime in the Shelob aftermath or in Cirith Ungol, and maybe Frodo kisses Sam on the cheek at the Grey Havens. But, on the lips would be awesome. If they do it that way, I'm sure it will be very carefully filmed so that it looks pristine and chaste and all (the big ol' passionate kisses will probably be left to Faramir & Eowyn), but even so, such a thing would be awesome.
Re: Hmmm...
Date: 2003-05-02 10:56 am (UTC)Could be. That would make sense. I don't know why I always just read those final kisses before Frodo leaves, when he kisses Merry, Pippin and last of all Sam, as not on the cheek.
But, on the lips would be awesome. If they do it that way, I'm sure it will be very carefully filmed so that it looks pristine and chaste and all
Of course, but even if it is pristine and chastely filmed. Would it really be in the eyes of a good number of the fans?
(the big ol' passionate kisses will probably be left to Faramir & Eowyn)
Heh, true. Suddenly I just flashed on the image of the Fellowship waiting there next to the boat, and after the Merry and Pippin say their good byes to Frodo he goes to say goodbye to Sam. And of course, the other kisses were chaste, so why wouldn't this one be? Until they really start kissing and the observers suddenly feel like they've been transported into that Big Red gum commercial where the couple kisses for hours ;)
but even so, such a thing would be awesome.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Re: Hmmm...
Date: 2003-05-02 03:22 pm (UTC)True; normally Tolkien says so, if the kiss is on the forehead. But maybe PJ will shy away from a direct mouth-kiss. Which a good number of us would like to see for slightly non-chaste reasons, as you suggest. ;)
and the observers suddenly feel like they've been transported into that Big Red gum commercial where the couple kisses for hours
hahaha...that would be hilarious. Oh please oh please, let it be in the outtake reel...
hehehe

Date: 2003-04-29 10:51 pm (UTC)Actually, in the original, Frodo's lips were quite pale - same color as the rest of his skin - due to the fact that he was supposed to appear basically dead. So maybe that's how it happened.

Though, "Frankly, my dear..." would make a really good caption too. Hmm...
Taste and decency, theology and geometry
Date: 2003-04-30 02:54 pm (UTC)BTW, the most popular book in the Christian world features a very angsty same sex kiss. So JC/JI, anyone? Or maybe some resolutely chaste characters should be better left alone? Just for the hell of it :-)
