Interlude on Elven archery
Mar. 1st, 2003 04:50 pmFor those of you who appreciate weaponry, the Lord of the Rings movies, Legolas, and/or Orlando Bloom, this article The Boy With the Bow, by an archery enthusiast, is very, very cool. Just another bit of proof that the filmmakers put quite a lot of effort into the most minuscule details.
Excerpt:
The bracers do keep his shirt sleeve out of his string, which is important, because the tiniest snag on release can send the arrow dangerously out of control. ...Long hair causes the same problem, and it can be eliminated by braiding the hair tightly against the sides of the head, especially around the ears. Therefore those little elf-braids are not mere decoration; they are functional.
And on the second quiver he gets, from Lorien... (I didn't even notice he got a new quiver. I didn't notice the new bow either until the extended edition, when the gift-giving is actually shown):
The second quiver is carefully-shaped leather, embossed and gilded with a peacock design. Perhaps a comment on the Fellowship's most decorative member?
Hee.
Thanks much to
pegkerr for finding and posting this.

I'm getting new goodies from the props people and *crosses fingers* maybe eventually one of the stunt guys will answer some of my questions. The page is going to get hosted by an official-type website, eventually, so I've had to strip out some of the silliest humor, but I've new improved a few bits.
Only trouble is you're all killing my server. I had 3 gigs downloaded in 2 days, and had to strip out the pictures and substitute ones from other websites (some of which are COOOL, I might add).
Anyway, check back on it sometime. I'll be updating it for the other movies.
Bloom fans are so scary!
P.S. The all-slash parodies are a riot. Right up there with VSDs. :)
