World according to U.S.
Feb. 18th, 2003 08:37 pmThere are only a couple things I would change about this map...
France should be labelled "Cheese weasels", NZ should be labelled "Middle-Earth" (not "Xena"--that's so five years ago), and "Llamas" should be written across the general vicinity of Peru. Otherwise, it looks about accurate. ;)
(Oh yes, and their "Hollywood" arrow is a few hundred miles off. It appears to be pointing to San Francisco. But then, I'm guessing this was drawn up by someone who is not from the U.S., so some inaccuracy about U.S. geography is to be expected. Hee. The irony.)

anti-war protests in Minas Tirith
Date: 2003-02-21 02:37 pm (UTC)Peace in Middle Earth in our time
MINAS TIRITH (Gondor News Network) - Thousands of peace activists took to the streets of Minas Tirith and other cities of Middle Earth today to protest what they termed a rush to war with Mordor.
“We need more time for diplomacy,” said a key member of the Middle-Earth Security Council, Saruman the White. “I am not convinced by the evidence presented by my esteemed colleague, Gandalf the Grey, or that the Dark Lord Sauron presents an imminent danger to the peoples of the West” ...

Re: anti-war protests in Minas Tirith
Date: 2003-03-12 05:13 pm (UTC)How come it's supposed to be funny when people protest against a war started by a supposedly "good" country against a supposedly "bad" country? *sigh* I can see the point - a few months ago I would have laughed at this - but it's weird how the actual state of the world is interpreted upon a story whose author said expressively that it didn't have ANYTHING to do with actual events (even less with the actual events of 50 years AFTER he wrote the story)
*clears throat*
Sorry. Just couldn't shut up.
Besides, Saruman just isn't the kind of type who'd want negotiations. Not in the time this article is supposed to come from. Unless you think of the Star Wars Episode II "aggressive negotiations" thingy.
Saddam's not Sauron, you know. Not even Saruman.
And Bush is most like Ar-Pharazôn. *coughs* AKALLABÊTH NOW!
