Mix CD

I made a CD of pop songs I suspected my wee kids would like. Given the following playlist, evidently I think my kids will enjoy a lot of '80s synthesizer. (And some occasional catchy '60s guitar.) Because, hey, that's what *I* like.

And track 15 is by The Monkees, of course. Silly iTunes and its failure to shrink long titles so they're readable.

The kids *love* a couple of Vampire Weekend tracks from a previous mix CD, and I attribute that to the bouncy strings riff, so I'm hoping they can relate to a similar sound in keyboards.

And let me know if you need a copy of this CD too. ;)

If your kids don't like it, I do! Musically, I still seek solace in the 80s.

Yep, it's pretty much a "feel-good" mix for me. Which is useful for any parent of small kids. :)

High five! They are indeed under-represented. Though "Safety Dance" has certainly lived on.

Concrete & Clay is my favourite in this list.

Why have I never heard it before? Fantstic! Thanks!

Glad you like it! I hadn't heard it before either until it appeared on the soundtrack to 'Rushmore'--great film, with great British Invasion soundtrack.

Hey there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could get a captcha plugin for my comment form? I'm using the same blog platform as yours and I'm having difficulty finding one? Thanks a lot!

No idea here (if you are indeed asking a question and not merely a spambot)... :) I just let LiveJournal do the work. I'd merely Google "captcha plugin" to find out, as it knows more than I do.

Our musical tastes are mostly formed in our teens and early twenties - after that they stay frozen until eventually we have teenagers of our own. So all the songs on your playlist are on mine, or would be if I was organized enough, and I'm aware of the music my kids listen to now, but the 1990s (or more accurately about 1995-2005) are a lost decade to me, musically. It's always interesting to see what music of their parents' youth the kids pick up (my younger daughter's phone is packed with They Might Be Giants) and which of theirs get stuck in our heads. (Right now two songs are playing in mine, simultaneously advising me that (a) all the other kids with the pumped-up kicks better run, better run, and (b) I should take the skinheads bowling, take them bowling.)

Heheh--your daughters have good taste! (Not a surprise, really.) Thanks to Seattle's KEXP, I am familiar with both those songs, and think them quite catchy. Though isn't "Take the Skinheads Bowling" from way back when?

I rely on KEXP to keep me at least moderately up-to-date, as far as indie/"alternative" music goes. I'm quite out of touch with top 40 now, with the exception of those groups who cross over from the alternative side.

Yes, the Camper Van Beethoven part is from my own youth...
