For past Halloweens, as you may recall, I had lots of you read spooky lines aloud from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" or "The Raven," and spliced them together into little audio projects. Anyone interested in doing the same this year for Dracula? If so, which passage should we choose? Something sort of early on, from Jonathan Harker's journal? The increasingly terror-driven ship's log of the doomed vessel that brings Dracula to England? Vamp Lucy getting dispatched? Or what?

I do also like the idea of reading the poem "The Gashlycrumb Tinies," but it's not really long enough to accommodate all the readers who are likely to want a pair of lines. And two lines each would be best, given those short little couplets. So, perhaps Stoker.

The official sign-up will come within the next couple of weeks, and you'd get assigned a line or two each. Recording them on your computer's microphone makes for the best sound quality, but phone posts are all right too. Bring your family and friends. All accents and ages welcome, as a wide variety of voices makes for the most fun.

I was just wondering if you'd restart the project this year.

I'll have to go back and look at the story again... but I call dibs on any passage that requires screaming. :-)

Provided I can make Sound Studio still work with my new computer, I'll go for it. It may require inviting people via Facebook as well, though, since there's been such an exodus from LJ.

I'm thinking you should record a scream regardless of the passage. I can surely mix it in somehow. :)

How about having people provide video submissions? :-)

It would be a fun option, but I imagine we'd get fewer takers if that were a requirement!

Ooo, I would love to do Dracula. I haven't read it in ages and this would be the perfect excuse.

The ship's log would be good, I think.

Cool! When I re-read it a few years ago, I found it surprisingly page-turner-ish, not as meandering and Victorian as one might expect.

The ship's log is a rather classic bit, and kind of a mini-story in itself. Might be a good choice!

I'm in!
Dracula scared me silly when i first read it at age 7. Mum got rather tired of my frequent requests to leave a light on so the vampires wouldn't get me. I don't know why she didn't just bring a head of garlic up to my room and leave it on the windowsill.

The ship's log is terrifying still. I vote for that bit.

Great! Heheh--indeed, it was pretty creepy when I re-read it just a few years ago, so I can imagine it would be downright traumatizing at age 7. There was a movie version (the little-known one with Frank Langella) that freaked out my younger sister and me.

True, the ship's log is a great scary bit, and parceled up into good small sections as well! I may go with that.

Totally late to the party on this, but YAYYYY! I was hoping you'd do something like this again! I'm so completely there. :)

Hurray! I will try to do the sign-up post this week, then. Thanks!
