Vignette on how the times have changed:

Scene: Steve and I are listening to a CD collection of British Invasion hits from the '60s--Dusty Springfield, Donovan, Tom Jones, etc.

Steve: These all have an "insurance commercial" type of feel.
Me: I was thinking "granola commercial."
Steve: Yeah. Same thing, basically.

But don't be offended. It'll happen to our generation too. In another 30 years, they'll be playing Death Cab for Cutie and the Arcade Fire as the background music for insurance and granola commercials.

I used to get cheesed when I heard songs by artists such as the Ramones or Jonathan Richman used for advertising, but now I just think, "I'm glad they're making money from this."

Or in the case of the average Ramone these days, their heirs are.

I remember being surprised to hear the Cure's "Pictures of You" for an HP printer commercial (I think that was it), but came to the same conclusion. Heh.
