One thing I love about Doctor Who is the out-of-the-blue moments of comedy, particularly in the form of the Doctor being cluelessly dorky. Two such examples that cracked us up from the episode "Fear Her" (these hardly count as spoilers, just being little moments): 1) his picking up the marmalade jar in someone else's kitchen and dipping his fingers in for a taste, and 2) his responding to the subject line (which, he later realized, was directed at a cat) with, "Thanks! I'm experimenting with backcombing." I'm grinning irrepressibly again in the mere typing of the words.

Which is good, and which I must focus upon, because next comes the two-part season finale of S2, and I know how "Doomsday" ends already (I totally caved and watched the last six minutes without even caring what came before), so now I'm dreading it with a pain rivaled only by my dread of the Grey Havens scene before ROTK came out. And the Grey Havens was almost less poignant because Frodo didn't *have* to leave (he just did to annoy us all), whereas Rose and the Doctor have no choice in how things end up. I shouldn't mind so much. I'm not even a shipper here! But if it hurts him, it hurts me. That, ladies and gents, is precisely how lame I have become.

One of my favorite lines from S2. Ever.

I'm discussing with a friend of mine at work about our favorite funny parts. We both enjoy the running through all the doors in "Love and Monsters" and yelling about the bucket.

Oh, there's a funny part at the very beginning of "Army of Ghosts" that still makes me laugh out loud every single time. I won't tell you what it is, though. =^^=

"Love and Monsters" had tons of funny stuff. Besides the narrator guy sounding exactly like the Geico gecko, we also enjoyed Jackie's attempts to seduce him.

Hmm, and would it be Jackie smooching the Doctor at the beginning of "Army of Ghosts"? And him wiping off his face in disgust? Hee. Well, that was funny, regardless.

In fact, I think Martha and Dr.10 have better chemistry than Rose did with him... Rose is a Dr.9 match, as far as I'm concerned. Of course, ***edited for major Season 3 spoiler*** with cake.

Probably my favorite S2 moment was the end of "The Satan Pit" (an episode I otherwise disliked). When threatened with the death of the off-stage Rose, the Doctor appears to give the threat some concern, than flips to manic confidence: "Rose... can take care of herself!" And we see immediately, she can.

What a lovely change from decades of helpless damsels (Leela and Ace notwithstanding) - and how nice that the Doctor has that kind of faith in her.

I see what you mean about the dodgy mythology in "The Satan Pit," but I've become used to shrugging off that kind of thing in sci-fi and fantasy. It probably is more annoying if you had a longer history with the show and if it used to be more respectable with such issues. But I did like his trust in Rose there too.

Oh gosh, Ten is just so completely LOVE. I love him so much. I am having Ten withdrawals and need to watch more Doctor Who, stat. :-) We will definitely have to fangirlishly gush!

Doomsday....*wails* I cried so hard, I could hardly see the screen at times. It devastated me, emotionally. I know I shouldn't take a TV show so seriously, but gosh. I can't help it. LOL!

I want to take it slow so I don't have to run out of episodes too soon, but the dang seasons are so short!

The beach farewell in Doomsday still hurts my heart when I think of it. Having his "I love you too" cut short was a really cruel touch on the writers' part. I kind of admire them for it, actually. That took nerve. :) But the tears on his face, and the forlorn young look--guh! So beautiful. I rewound and rewatched that a dozen or so times. *is a dork*

Just a show, just a show...must keep reminding ourselves...

Aww, I know exactly what you mean! I want to go back and revisit those season two episodes. I love the Doctor and Rose. *sighs*

Doomsday is such a well-done piece of television greatness. It really was heartwrenching and poignant, and beautiful. The acting in the beach scene (and then, the Doctor in the Tardis...*wails*) was absolutely astounding.

Well, I can, because I'm good at steeling myself for sad movie scenes. Also, for whatever reason, parent/child-type interactions touch my tear ducts faster--like Eowyn finding the dying Theoden, or Arwen saying to Elrond, "You have my love, Father." However, the Grey Havens scene depresses me for far longer. That's the one that kept hurting me when I looked back on the film. It's a sad scene that keeps on giving!

You mentioned possibly two of my most treasured bits of comedy in Season Two (I just re-watched the season on BBC America--we finished up last Saturday. "Fear Her" I ended up watching on two separate airings. :) "Doomsday" hit me harder this time around... though I still do not "ship" Ten and Rose.)

I love the Keystone Cops comedy bit that someone already mentioned from "Love and Monsters"

Also: "So, what do I look like? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, don't tell me. Let's see, two legs, two arms, two hands, slight weakness in the dorsal tubercle... hair! I'm not bald! Ooh... big hair. Sideburns - I've got sideburns! Or really bad skin... Little bit thinner; that's weird. Give me time, I'll get used to it. ... I... have got a mole. I can feel it. Between my shoulder blades, there's a mole. It's all right! Love the mole! Go on then."

The Doctor: Am I ... ginger?
Rose: No, you're just sort of ... brown.
The Doctor: [disappointed] Aw, I wanted to be ginger! I've never been ginger! And you, Rose Tyler! Fat lot of good you were! You gave up on me! [Rose looks annoyed] Ooh, that's rude... Is that the sort of man I am now? Am I rude? Rude and not ginger.

I also love Tennant's accent when he says "You wanna know the best bit? This new hand... it's a fighting hand!"

There are so many... The Cassandra-body-jump scenes are fantastic. Mickey and K-9 are also fun. The "You are not keeping a horse" discussion in "The Girl in the Fireplace"... I could go on forever.

When you get to "The Runaway Bride" episode, that has some fun parts to it as well...(I am sure your have seen this, right?)

When it comes to "Doomsday," well, I'll repeat what I told Kimma:

"Love the mole!" Oh yes, that whole scene was adorably funny. I think he really needs to show us the mole, though, and prove its existence.

"Rude and not ginger"--yes, and also the follow-up in "Tooth and Claw" when he's calling the telescope "crap," and then asks Rose, "Am I being rude again? [she nods] But it's pretty! It's very pretty!"

Also, I loved his delivery on the line "I'm not surprised" when Rose says Jackie dated a sailor. :D

Horse discussion: hee! "What's a horse doing on a spaceship?" "What's 18th century France doing on a spaceship? Get some perspective!"

I love the Catherine Tate sketch. Mmm, the accent...

I re-watched the crying scene as well. What hurts me the most is when Rose is leaning against "her Torchwood wall" and he is doing the same in the "real" world. He doesn't cry in that scene, but he manages to break my heart every time I watch it. *points to icon*

Oh yes, meant to remark upon that icon--something like, "Oh, I know where that's from now; and ow, my heart!" Really the heartbreak does start there, continue on through him walking away slowly alone, and on through the beach.

Had to cobble myself together this icon to remind myself that he gets fun moments with the ladies too. ;) (I like your spying-on-Reinette-in-the-garden one as well.)

That part literally made my heart hurt. I haven't been able to watch that episode again, simply because it took so much out of me, emotionally. I guess I know what to watch when I need a good cry, eh?
