This is just to say...
Nov. 16th, 2007 08:32 pm...that I have lived up to my own prediction and already fallen into belly-tingling crushhood with David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. I would like to blame this shameful fangirliness on my female LJ friends (I'm lookin' at you,
dirae,
modmerseygirl, and
sopdetly, among others) who primed me for the Ten Love, but really nobody else can cause me to crush on anyone. I've only seen two full episodes of season 2, but have come to the inescapable conclusion that he is one lickable hunk of geek-chic manliness (really, does it get any geekier than playing The Doctor?)--chirpy voice, silly facial expressions, horn-rims and all.
So I'm now in that annoying spot where I want to see all kinds of fanfic, videos, photos, and icons (I did pick up three new ones already) but have to be careful not to spoil myself on later episodes; yet I also don't want to rush through the remaining episodes because I must savor them. They are of limited quantity and the first time is always so precious.
No double entendres consciously intended in this post. They just crept in by themselves.

Date: 2007-11-17 05:00 am (UTC)I offer this advice purely out of the kindness of my heart, for your personal benefit, and not because I am in any sense remotely interested in seeing burning hot stuff about the
mind-bogglingly beautifultenth Doctor. Oh, no no no no no nononononono no. No.It's just that I think that it might be cathartic for you to write about this, extensively, in detail. With charts. And illustrations. And extensive descriptions.
Not that I've thought about it, or anything. :D
Glad I'm in good company
Date: 2007-11-17 06:32 am (UTC)I was also not, in any sense, cruising Who-fic sites for similar smut recently. No no no. So there's no chance I'd ever write any, definitely not under a pseudonym that I'd carefully share with a select few; no, almost certainly not.
Well, I haven't yet, anyway, but if it gets unbearable I might have no choice. *resigned sigh*
*prepares pie charts just in case*

Date: 2007-11-17 05:29 am (UTC)He won me over in "New Earth". That should be one of the eps you've seen, and if you have then you know exactly what I mean. If you haven't...well, trust me, you will. XD
Ohhh, now I may just have to revisit S2 for the rest of the night. Bwah.
Also, dammit, once NaNo is over I really need to go back and see if I can work on that Ten/Sparrow x-over fic that was eating at my brain. :D
(BTW, how do you plan to handle S3? Do you plan to wait for the DVDs, or would you...*cough*...like some help? *winkwink*)

Date: 2007-11-17 06:34 am (UTC)According to Netflix, S3 is already available in full legal form. I might need help with S4 if I'm speedy, though... :)
Ten/Sparrow: heheh. Yeah, I was equally confused by all this talk of "Captain Jack" for many months there. Seeing Sparrow enter the picture would be entertaining to say the least!

Date: 2007-11-17 12:05 pm (UTC)Torchwood will be out in North America Jan ::2 ?:: 2008 - Region one will have every swear word written in the Torchwood lexicon. I couldn't stop laughing when I read in a Doctor Who Magazine how Captain Jack never swore in Torchwood because he was still an essentially a Doctor Who character. Um... Where was RTD during the second half of Torchwood's first season? Off on the TARDIS? Experimenting with whatever Gallifreyan plant the Fourth Doctor enjoyed growing behind his purple people eater? ::snerK::

Date: 2007-11-17 04:49 pm (UTC)I'm not very familiar at all with older Doctor Who characters. The "Sparrow" reference was for Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean, which is who I thought people were talking about when they said "Captain Jack". Until I learned about Mr. Harkness, that is.

Date: 2007-11-17 11:52 am (UTC)So, I've been going over some old postings and noticed that you were one of the few friends who didn't morph into someone knew (a lot of people did that this year), so I came to investigate.
The Golden Compass is coming to Theaters here in the US next month - since its by the same company as did Lord of the Rings, I wonder how well done the actual Shindig will be ::bloody, okay, dry::? I really want to see the 3D version.
Of course, with my luck, I'll tick off the security guard for insisting on taking in bottled water ::hey, its the theater's neck if I end up in hospital again over something trivial:: and life will spiral downhill. But there is only one, eestsy weeny teeny beeny IMAX screen in the Portland area, and if stand at the bottom and jump, you just might touch the top - yes, it's that small!

Long live lovely Ten!

Date: 2007-11-18 03:00 pm (UTC)"Why haven't you commented on Mol's Ten love yet? Everybody else has."
Me (as I pause the show): Sheesh. You know I never internet during my moments of Who...
So, I'm here now after everyone has proclaimed the Ten love along with you.
I fought it--this fangirl crush--but Tennant won me over the moment he licked his teeth after the regeneration, I just wouldn't admit it. I never gave Tennant much of a thought before--he didn't strike me in Casanova or in Bright Young Things as anything other than a good actor, but the moment I began watching Season Three it hit and it hit HARD (I spent most of Season Two only half-watching the show so the gut-gooeyness never materialized... much).
I told Kimma once that for me, it is all about the character—the rumpled suit, messy hair, and 900 some odd years of tragedy/conflict…Doctor Ten could charm the pants off me. Oy. I just want to take him home, comb his hair and offer to iron his suit. My toes curl the moment I see Ten (or Tennant for that matter because the two are matrixed in my mind now under the tag of Swoon). I’ve got it bad. Not bad enough to read or write fan fiction, but that may be because I don’t have the time on my hands to do things like that...
Nonetheless…
Yesterday I was at my parents' home visiting. Kevon yells, "Kimmeh, you'll never guess who is on the BBC catalog!"
I run into the kitchen and grab it out of his hands, "It's the Doctor? Eeeeeeee!" I effing "eeeeee!" at the sight of an image I have seen a trillion times. Then I pointed him out to my mother in a gushing manner of a pre-teen. It was a low moment for me, I am afraid. A low moment.

Date: 2007-11-18 04:54 pm (UTC)I actually remembered that post of yours and went back to reread it the other day. Got me thinking, and I'll answer now that, yes, it's the same for me, and in a way it always has been: I'm usually more into the character/actor blend than simply the actor. I can admire a good actor wherever he goes, but for the swoon dimension it takes a character I can adore (and flattering costumes and hairstyles don't hurt).
I guess I can swoon if the actor performs a really charming interview, but I seldom even see stuff like that, so for me it's mostly a weird fictional crush thing. :)
This happens to me fairly often. I loved Edward Scissorhands as a teen but didn't swoon over Johnny Depp until later, in Benny and Joon or, more strongly, Don Juan deMarco. And Seth Green amused me as Scott Evil but didn't attract me--then he melted me as the sweet teen werewolf on Buffy.
Anyway, re Tennant, I plan to check out Casanova just in case. I thought he was goofy and funny in Bright Young Things but not exactly dishy. But I do recall thinking in the Harry Potter film, "Hm, Barty Crouch Jr is kind of cute...but he's insane and evil, so never mind."
Last night we saw the "Tooth and Claw" episode. Mmmm, Doctor doing Scottish accent... *dreamy sigh*

Date: 2007-11-18 11:04 pm (UTC)The mustache in Bright Young Things totally had me wrinkling up my nose. For some reason I really don't dig on facial hair unless it is a 5 o'clock shadow thingy.
