Apologies for my limited LJ presence lately. Having a child who can scoot with increasing speed and agility around the house, along with a house whose layout seems to have been designed specifically to make babyproofing very difficult, keeps you busy. Also, I've been good and have actually been writing during his naps, and finished a novel the other day. 83,000 words, a true Young Adult/Urban Fantasy this time (actual high schoolers, no naughty language or rampant sex). So now it's in quarantine for two months and I shall not look at it or think of it, and will come back to it in January to see how it reads after that. And then I'll need some good hard feedback from others, probably. But that's all ahead of us.

Anyway, this was nearly the extent of the Halloween dress-up at our house: a baby alligator and me wearing black. First time in memory that I haven't had a costume, but I wasn't going anywhere, and these days life is about keeping things uncomplicated. While, of course, trying to write novels on the side.

No, I'm not doing NaNoWriMo. That would qualify as complication. But I will be rewriting other novels. For me, in some sense, it's ALWAYS novel writing month. But until I quit using British spelling where it's called for, I'm never getting published; never, I tell you! (Should I tell the reviewers they misspelled their own website in their form rejection letter? Or would that just look bitter?)

Here are three words that I never would have imagined myself stringing together:

CUTEST. ALLIGATOR. EVAR.

And he hardly ever kills and eats joggers, so as alligators go he's really very tolerable. :D

So cute! Good luck with the baby-proofing... And a big Mazel Tov! for finishing the novel. I hope it reads well in January.

I will definitely be calling upon beta readers, any who dare! Good to know.

Good luck with whatever you're working on right now, too. :)

Awww! What an adorable photo! He's such a lovely baby, and you look so pretty. :-)

Yay about the book! *thinking positive thoughts* I look forward to the day when I can go into the local Borders and pick up a copy. You must promise to come to Florida on your book-signing tour. I'll be first in line. :-)

Take care, Miss Mol! *hugs*

Aw, thank you. You're one sweet thang.

If I'm ever lucky enough to be in your neck of the woods, book signing or not, I'll definitely call on you and we'll do coffee or something! And in the meantime you can come up with lovely actors to fill my dream casts. :)

Aw! *blush*

That would be wonderful. I'd love to meet you in person one day, Mol!

Heeheee.....I'll be doing some brainstorming for that dream cast. I would be most honoured to be an extra.....I could be "girl in pink shirt walking back and forth" or something. *grin*

Goodness, [livejournal.com profile] thomas_a_kempis must be in a coma because I cannot think of anything else preventing Dad from pouncing on an opportunity to unload this brief anecdote on an unsuspecting victim:

My dad and little sister ([livejournal.com profile] green_tea_lady) were in the garage. Not sure how old GT was at the time, but the important thing is that Dad was not paying attention to her. She kept announcing "Daddy, I'm an alligator!" very loudly, to which he would murmur some kind of vague response without looking up. So she bit him on the calf of one leg. Hard. Because she was an alligator. He was a little more attentive to strange announcements from his youngest child thereafter.

See? How could he have possibly passed up such a perfect opportunity for The Alligator Story? How? A coma is the only explanation.

Oh, also, your child is adorable and you are to be congratulated on finishing the novel. Is this the one you were thinking of naming "Angel of Death Valley"? Am very excited to read.

I would have included this in my original post but the urge to share The Alligator Story overpowered all other forms of thought.

Hee! I love the alligator story. Z. is not half bad at biting things himself, including his parents, so perhaps it's an appropriate costume.

Yes, it was the angel novel I finished, though I think I might end up calling it Heaven or California, as that sounds slightly more wry. (Wryer? No, that could not be a word.) I like wry. And I will do another all-points bulletin for beta readers when the right time arrives.

I don't normally go all gaga over babies, but that young'un of yours is just too cute to be allowed. :D Such EYES!

I look forward to years in the future, when you post the journal entry about how you tormented him by showing this picture to his first girlfriend. ;-)

I'm hoping for Elijah-level eyes on him, naturally. Think of the money he could bring in!

His first prom date will actually be subjected to the photo of him a few minutes after birth, naked and pink and screaming in protest as he gets weighed on the hospital scale. :D
