Spring pics, and upcoming release

I've just finished looking over the galleys, as it were, for my upcoming ebook release, Summer Term. Should be ready for general consumption soon, so watch this space. The short description is that it's "chick-lit," about a grad student, a Linguistics professor, and a movie star; and is, sadly, not based on my real life, except that I was a Ling grad student once.

It also pokes a little bit of fun at fanfic, and a fairly large amount of fun at fangirls in general; even though, in a larger sense, the whole thing could be considered a novel-length Mary Sue fanfic. I'm meta-ironic that way.

Some direct quotes, out of context, to whet your curiosity and make it feel like you're hearing a preview on TV from another room:

My new wallpaper gallery currently has just three pics for you, but they're rather pretty. I took them in Seattle's Fauntleroy Park, and captured a Shire-ish forest path, a salmonberry blossom, and a drift of trillium on the forest floor. As "Trillium" used to be one of my screen names, I have a fondness for that flower.

Any book that has that line in it is worth a read! LOL! I look forward to more info! Will this ebook be in a format that makes it easy to load onto a Palm? Because that would be hella tight. :D

Hee. That's pretty much how I first felt about slash, though I came to understand it (well, sort of, anyway) later.

And, yep - the epub (Scheherazade Tales) provides .html, .txt, .lit, .pdf, .prc and .pdb formats, so I imagine one of those shall do the trick. Go you for reading on the Palm! :D

My first thoughts were, "But...the characters aren't gay? Why would you write them like that? Won't somebody think of the canon?!" (Incidentally -- I wonder if there are any canonically gay characters that have a large fanbase that writes them into het fic...hmmm...)

Excellent! I love reading on my Palm -- my primary use of it is for reading fic :P

Lordie, the fandom would crucify a person for turning a gay character straight, I bet. :D It's un-PC!!!11!!

Similarly, I saw people in the Frodo/Sam 'verse go postal when they found teenyboppers on fanfiction.net writing quest-stories in which Sam was a girl and therefore could get involved with Frodo without having to do any icky slash stuff. Hee.

Yeah, I've heard of spazouts like that, too. It is a bit odd, though -- it's not like there's not a canon girl that Sam, y'know, MARRIES, if they want to avoid icky slash.

Granted, one of my favorite fics is one in which Remus & Sirius are accidentally turned into girls, and it's femslash. Hehehehe. Good stuff ;D

Heh, I may have to once again cross the chick-lit line for you. Dangit. And I was just reasserting what a hard-core sci-fi/fantasy/classic lit girl I am.

Oh, and trillium is very neat-looking. I don't think I've ever seen it.

Even I don't read my own genres very often, so I understand. :D But this is a pretty fast and salacious read, so hey.

Think trillium might be more of a NW thing...or at least a wet-forest thing. Some types are quite rare and people are told to never ever pick them. Not this type, though. Except in the general sense that you shouldn't pick flowers in parks, because everyone should get to enjoy them.

Trilliums are the official flower of Ontario so you're not supposed to pick them here. I'm pretty sure picking them sometimes kills the entire plant which is why you're not supposed to.
