mollyringle1. Stuff on My Cat. (No, not my cat. I don't have a cat.) Photos of cats with stuff on them. I see now where the citrus-helmeted-cat pictures must have come from. Also includes pinecones, Barbie dolls, Post-It notes, and ketchup bottles precariously balanced upon cats.

radiofreecarbon, My Hubby Who Never Updates But Who Emails Me Or Tells Me About Stuff. The old 7 wonders are mostly gone, so this is a vote to determine 7 wonders still in existence. It's interesting, in that there's such a diverse group. How do you decide which is more a "wonder"--Easter Island statues, or the Kremlin? Seems to me they ought to have an "ancient" and a "modern" category. And all Indiana Jones fans will CLEARLY vote for Petra as one of the ancient wonders.
3. Silliness: The Brokeback Mountain shopping list. Hee. (Hat tip tokenshi.) Incidentally, did anyone else catch this?: just after the Golden Globes, one of those entertainment shows had their behind-the-scenes schmoozing-with-the-stars special, during which their talking hairdo asked the "Lost" cast if there was more romantic action coming up on the show. They joked around in the usual manner--"Sure hope so!"--and Daniel Dae Kim quipped, "Brokeback Island." Which is especially funny since I'm used to him being, you know, Jin, the silent, serious non-English-speaker. Anyway, plenty of fanfic writers have been turning it into Brokeback Island for over a year now, as the cast is aware, so it's nothing new really. Just amusing.
4. Netflix: recent activity on the parts ofsopdetly and alltimeqb reminds me that I've been meaning to tell people that they can invite me to join their Netflix friends list if they think it would be useful to know my ratings or what films I've been renting. To give you an idea of my tastes, here are some of the films I gave 5 stars to, one for almost every letter of the alphabet: Airplane!, Big Fish, Clue, Dangerous Liaisons, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Flirting, Galaxy Quest, The Hudsucker Proxy, Impromptu, Judgment at Nuremberg, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Little Shop of Horrors, Moulin Rouge, Northern Exposure (TV in that case), Office Space, Pretty in Pink, Rear Window, Spirited Away, The Talented Mr. Ripley, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Young Frankenstein. And the few I disliked enough to give 1 star to: The Astronaut's Wife, Beaches, The Crying Game, Dancer in the Dark, The Fast & The Furious, Gone in 60 Seconds, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Margaret Cho: Revolution, Phenomenon, The Scarlet Letter (Demi Moore version), Twister. No, I'm not interested in debating the list; I'm just giving you an idea of whether your ratings and mine would be any use to each other. If you think so, use the ladyirony address in my userinfo and invite away. Cheers!

And ANYBODY other than Uma Thurman as Cecile is an improvement. "Yes, Monsieur, this is my fifteen-year-old, six-and-a-half-foot tall virgin daughter. Be afraid."
This is even more distressing once you've seen Kill Bill. :-)

Date: 2006-02-20 11:50 pm (UTC)Oh yes, way back when, I think I did see Valmont. Might be worth re-watching. I avoided that new modern version, with Reese 'n Ryan, though, just on principle. (i.e., the principle that you can't destroy someone's life with stealing their virtue in modern high school the same way you could in European society in the 1700s.) But maybe I'm being unfair. :)

I don't know if I'd term Kremlin as a wonder, though of course I'll biasly vote for it ^_^ To me, stuff like Stonehenge or Great Wall of China (which, in Russia, I think we did count as a World Wonder, but I might be wrong) are wonders because they just sort of surpirise us - "Wow, I didn't know people back then could build something like this." Kremlin is more of something that people built - over different time periods, too, to protect the city. You know? Stonehendge is all scientificy and mystical and stuff.
The shopping list was so funny ^_^ Being gay is apparently very expensive ^_^
