I can hardly think of a better day to mention this. One of the dorkiest crushes I've ever had was for Tommy Steele as the leprechaun in the film version of Finian's Rainbow.

Totally bizarre plot, even for a musical; but the songs are rather lovely, it's well acted (dude, Fred Astaire's in it), and what girl does not want to look like Petula Clark? Tommy's leprechaun is obnoxious and silly and meddling and melodramatic, but when you're 8 that's exactly what's appealing; and since he's a member of the fairy folk he really is supposed to be obnoxious. (Come to think of it, he's like a benevolent version of the gentleman with the thistle-down hair, in Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.) I think I still carry that soft spot for the little man in green.

Who's with me? Can I get a shout-out? *stands alone with arm raised, looking around*

Well, anyway. Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Woohoo! Well, the fairy folk in Strange and Norrell really aren't that adorable. But it's still a very very cool book, yes.

No, no, no! You're not alone! I loved him. Let's not even talk about my goofy pre-teen obsession - like how his voice changes at the end when he says "Fairyland was never like this!" In fact, my only published essay is entitled "DVD Killed the Television Special" and the main focus was "Finian's Rainbow" and how it was my favorite movie as a child.

Let me know if you'd like to read it, I certainly won't spam your lj with it.

*gets all girly and swoony at recalling the "Fairyland was never like this" line.* That looked like a good kiss, too. Mmm-hmm. I'd love to read the essay! Spam away, or email if you prefer. Didn't know there were other leprechaun fanciers out there. Yay!

(Love the icon! Hah!)

Thank you, indeed. It's one of my favorite icons also. I love MST3k And I'll try the essay here first, if it will fit. If it won't, then I'll email it to you.

You had a crush on a leprechaun?? That's a little...um...weird. =P

Heheh...I know, it does sound weird. He was human-sized in the movie, though, and didn't have green skin or anything. He was basically an Irishman with magical powers. But considering I've also had crushes on hobbits, I guess I shouldn't claim to be entirely normal. :)

Haha... dude, I love you. You made my day.

Well, actually, seeing Gandalf as an example in my math homework made my day. But you made it better, yes *nod*

Er...I randomly found this by looking for Og pictures on google. And no, you're not alone. My older sister and her best friend had quite the obsession with Tommy Steele. Let's just say it involves many songs and quotes running rampant in my mind. Mostly a proclivity to howl 'Doom AND gloom!' at odd moments in life...

Hehe! Rock on. "Poor Ireland! Sufferin' Ireland!"

I recently got the DVD, so I could screencap some much better-quality Og shots if it was really needed... :)

'Oh, me suffering Ireland.' *sob*

Oo, that sounds intriguing. I wouldn't mind one from the bit where he says 'All Halloweenish' from his song with Sharon. If you're not too busy, that is:) If you are, don't worry about it.

I love him! I mean he's a great actor and he's hilarious! I was just thinking of how dorky I was for it, but at least I'm not the only one lol. Actually I was just looking for good pics of him to show my non-fan friends...lol well, you aren't standing alone, but it may just be the two of us haha...*sweat drop*
