Argh!
When did this happen??

OK, yeah, I can read: it happened on January 27, 2004. Just last week. The Cure finally released a box set of all their B-sides and rarities, which I spent years and dollars collecting and tracking down, and endured crappy cassette third-hand copies of, just because I loved them so much. And now they're all pretty and plastic-wrapped in one tidy package and ready to buy on Amazon.

I also heard on the radio that the Cure's earlier albums are going to be remastered and re-released soon. Again: this after I spent 1995 thru 1998 collecting all of them on CD. And now my interest in the Cure has subsided just enough that I probably won't bother to get all the new stuff, but some part of me will always be whispering when I look at my CD collection, "Shouldn't you upgrade?"

Argh. Argh. Argh. Record labels. Hates them.

P.S. Subject title explanation: For the uninitiated, "2Late" is one of the best Cure B-sides out there. It's similar to "Just Like Heaven," if you remember that from the '80s. Go Limewire it or Kazaa it or something.

Hey, I'm just about the biggest Cure fan there is and I didn't hear about the disks either until my husband surprised me with the b-sides collection for an early Valentines Day gift. Yay! Yay! it's a verrrry nice set. Droools.

Dang, I may have to give in and get it, sometime, then. *sigh* So much prettier than my bootleg collection. :)

Hmm, I owe you an email, don't I...shall go do that...

*cough* Fat Bob short of cash *cough*

Note: He's been letting HP use "pictures of you" for advertising, some car company using "Inbetween Days" and "Friday" for a TV theme, and it's also turned advertising TV progs and on several montages on various programmes.

He must be desperate for cash.

And I must admit to discovering about the box set back in November. And I wouldn't mind owning the box set myself.

Bought it for Kev's birthday. Dreadfully nice.

With the inclusion of rare gems like "To The Sky" and the Flexipop version of "Lament," the box set is definitely well worth its price tag.

Yeah, I'm actually impressed at how little it costs, considering the amount of material.

Wonder if my secondhand bootleg of 'A Thousand Virgins' would get much on Ebay anymore? :)

I would advise holding onto that one as it's pretty much the only place to find the extended remix of "A Letter To Elise" aside from the very rare US promo CD.

they're touring again, as well. friend of mine's all *in a tizzy* about going to see them at a festival in california this may, where they're supposedly headlining one day (radiohead the other day), and now i'm hearing they have other tour dates planned as well?

i know i don't keep up, and i know i rarely listen to them anymore, but sheesh. i thought they were still "broken up" (isn't that what "breaking up" means?) so *surprise* to me.

There are a lot of great bands playing Coachella this year: The Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, among many others. If only I lived even remotely closer to California...

I heard "Pictures of You" on the HP printer commercial, but otherwise have been out of the loop on Cure news till happening to switch radio stations yesterday and catching that tidbit. Lack of new material seems likelier than lack of money, but I wouldn't really know, not being privy to his personal bank account...

In any case, yeah, looks like a fine set. Might have to put it on the wish list. (No pun intended. 'Wish.' Yeah.)

Ah. Good point; I like that mix.

That must be a more "official" bootleg than most, because the CD Database actually recognized it and labeled it, on iTunes, when I put the CD in. I was impressed.

Hey, you. :)

Yeah, I noticed the concert on their official site, which I checked today for the first time in years. I guess we shouldn't be surprised, though. Robert never, ever means it when he says "This is the last tour we'll ever do." Sure it is, Bob. Sure it is.

Erm... if you use soul seek that extended mix is incredibly easy to pick up.

*aaahhh*... *faint*.... *squeee*.... (much later) *runs to the record shop* Why didn't I know that?

I'm not listening to the Cure as much nowadays as I used to some years ago (although they once have been my no. 1), but while copying stuff on mp3 the last couple of weeks to listen in my car, I've somehow rediscovered them. (awww, memories...)

And "To the Sky" is on it as well? I've only got that one on a bootleg-vinyl-single!

"To the Sky" is in my top 3 favorites of their rarity material. That, "2Late," and "Harold and Joe"... *happy sigh*
