MakeupAlley, with its sundry and addictive consumer product reviews of every cosmetic under the sun, got me wondering about the necessity of all those beauty products, and led me to write this poll...

[Poll #203075]

I love painted fingernails on woman. It isn't essential for beauty, it's an accessory, like a great hair-style, or a nice pair of shoes.

A beautiful woman is just as beautiful when she isn't made up as when she is... you fall into this category :)

Aww, thanks. Gallantly spoken, dear sir. ;)

And I'm glad to hear it, because I can't stand having painted nails. It looks all right when it's perfectly done, but then they chip in about ten seconds, and instantly look crappy. And you do NOT want chips of that stuff in your food! A dubious idea all around if you ask me. But to judge from the poll thus far, there are still a lot of nail-polish fans out there. Ah well...

Heh, exactly. Appalled and yet fascinated. I practically never wear nail polish on my hands, because I keep bashing them on stuff, and it chips instantly, and then it looks bad. Plus, it tastes horrible, if you were to get any in your food or pick at your teeth with a thumbnail or anything, and it's poisonous to boot. I happen to think hands look fine without polish, and in fact better in most cases. Keeping nails trimmed and clean is all you really need. And a pretty ring, maybe. ;)

Of course, I wouldn't leave the house without putting on eyeliner and curling my eyelashes, so we all have our vanity points.

I very very rarely have bare fingernails, and NEVER have bare toenails. Toes look so much better with polish on.

I agree on the toes, and I tend to keep my toenails painted in the summer, when they're likely to be visible. But I'm finding myself mystified by all you people who keep your fingernails done up too! It seems to me that hands look fine without it, if the nails are trimmed and clean. *shrug* To each their own piece of glamour. :)

There is no need for polish if one can buff one's nails to a proper sheen (or have an Italian boy-o at a mall kiosk do it for him or her).

That's pretty much my feeling on it. Italian boy-o included. ;) (Saw your post on that, and meant to agree that those Italiani do have some luscious accents, much as I hate to admit that, from an anti-Eurotrash and objectively-linguistic point of view.)
