I want to pull out my mom voice on the entire internet today:
“Don’t flame people you don’t even know! You were raised better than that!”

Seriously, please, everyone on both sides - on ALL sides - remember the complex human beings at the other end. Today I talked a flame-commenter around to a “You’re right, I’m sorry for saying that” because I responded reasonably and respectfully, and found common ground with them. There IS hope for the country if we all do that.

I agree with this so much. The more people treat other human beings with respect, the better shot we have at getting through this. The more people dig in their heels and draw lines in the sand, the worse off we'll be. This could be the best opportunity we've ever had to break down the barriers that divide us once and for all. Thank you for doing your part. :)

Thank you - and I hope more people attempt it, and that I can remember to do it myself more often! It is really hard when there's insults and name-calling and shouting going on. It's much easier to throw snark right back at everyone, and start swearing, or at least blocking people on social media. But I think if instead of blocking we just pause to offer reasonable responses, and see what the actual complaint is under the offensive language, we'll likely find a human we can work with. Let's hope so, anyway.
