Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mosellegreen for linking this earlier...

Robert Downey Jr. to play Sherlock Holmes, with Jude Law as Watson, in new film(s).

Yum, yum. I love both those guys, and have lately been reading and enjoying more of Doyle's Holmes stories as well. Sounds like fun.

And yes, we will need a new library in Slashland to house all the fics that will get written.

In other news, thank you to those who have signed up so far to read aloud a line or two of "The Raven." There's still plenty of time, so if others are interested, come sign up here!

Hmmm, tough call. I can't imagine anyone doing Holmes better than Jeremy Brett from the 80's Holmes series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Brett and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Sherlock_Holmes_(TV_series)

Outstanding series, if you ever get a chance to see it.

And I've been hearing rumors that they aren't portraying Watson as a blithering idiot for a change. Maybe someone involved with the movie actually read one of Conan Doyle's stories.

Can you tell that's a pet peeve of mine? I swear, I can count the non-Jeremy Brett Holmes ventures that portrayed Watson as the intelligent-but-not-as-quick-as-Holmes type that he is on the fingers of one foot.

Oh, it isn't Doyle accuracy I'm interested in here, so much. It's more, you know, two attractive actors who I like, playing Holmes and Watson (who I like well enough). It isn't a point I expect a straight guy to get; it's okay. ;)

Well, there was the film Without a Clue, where Watson was the real mastermind and Holmes was just a dumb actor, but that wasn't exactly canon material either. :)

Hey, we straight guys aren't ALWAYS that oblivious... just most of the time. ;-)

A Director's Recipe for Marketing Genius

-A dash of latent eroticism inherent in the written tales
-A smattering of omnisexual qualities apparent in both male leads
-A pinch of the director musing over how the film will "explore the co-dependency and genuine love between Holmes and Watson"
-A palmfulof sexual tension provided by an "unremittingly evil" antagonist

Shake everything up and set it up to stew on the internet until the film's release in 2010.

What do you have?

The most slashed film in recent years!

[I'm so excited! Even though Orson Welles' radio broadcasts will always have a special place in my heart.]

Heheh...I didn't mean it like it sounds--not in a "straight guys are dense" way, not at all. I meant only, "It's okay; I don't expect a straight guy to see why a film with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law as a pair of characters with rather adorable chemistry between them would be exciting." :)

Hehehe. Exactly! Those close Victorian male friendships always give us modern girls suspicious ideas. (A quick Google search ascertains that, yep, there are already a ton of Holmes/Watson slash sites.)

And it doesn't help matters when RD Jr and Jude Law have both played gay or bisexual characters already. They'll be the prettiest incarnation yet.
