Go ahead, be schmoopy! Or be dry and sarcastic if that's your preferred style.

1. Name a love song you adore, even though you suspect it's sort of cheesy or cliched.

2. Provide one of your favorite quotations about love.

My answers:

1. "Romeo and Juliet," Dire Straits. It imprinted on me when I was 14 and I have never shaken it loose.

2. "The reduction of the universe to a single being, the expansion of a single being even to God, that is love." - Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

1. Gently Johnny (traditional folk song)

2. "Thou and I are too wise to woo peaceably." Benedict, to Beatrice, from Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare

1. Love is a Shield (http://www.philosophiste.com/media/loveisashield.mp3) - Camouflage

2. "Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come." - Matt Groening, Life in Hell

"I won't say (I'm in love)"- from Hercules. Supercool!

"Men have died from time to time, and worms have eaten them, but not for love."- As you like it, Act IV, Scene I, Ganymede (Rosalind) to Orlando, William Shakespeare (call me a bitter, if you will, but I like it's dry realistic charm).

1. "In Your Eyes," by Peter Gabriel

2. Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong,
And I am Marie of Romania.
- Dorothy Parker

1. Name a love song you adore, even though you suspect it's sort of cheesy or cliched. Power of Love, Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

2. Provide one of your favorite quotations about love.
Not a quotation but a whole damn sonnet!
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

1 - "Everything I Do" by Bryan Adams. I really can't help it, this song makes me tear up every time.

2 - I love that you get cold when it is 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Aw, I love Benedict and Beatrice. As I get older they seem more and more realistic. ;)

Ooh, I like the Gothy sound of that tune. Thanks!

Heheh...good Groening quote (and appropriate icon) too.

Dry realistic charm works. When someone wailed "Love sucks" once in a chat room, I had to point out that, actually, love doesn't suck; being away from the loved one sucks.

Mmm, God yes, "In Your Eyes." And Say Anything as a whole, really.

Hee, good old Parker. She provides some of my favorite dry quotes.

Aw man, you took me back to high school with that song. I had some emotional slow dances to that one. Hee.

And I knew that quote within the first two sentences! So sweet. That movie was darn well written.

Favourite song: A Love Worth Waiting For (Shakin Stevens)

Favourite quote: "Their love reminded me of the old tale of a red rose and a white rose, neither of which was strong enough to stand alone, but together entwined and stood tall, reaching for the sun."
Intervention, Julian May

Hope you don't mind that I've friended you; I followed you over from Mollyringwraith. :)

Yeah, because love is beautiful, I'm just cynical about Valentine's Day. So long as you get the right mix of love and realism (which, coinsidentally, is what the quote is about and what Valentine's Day is not) then you're set. Too much of one or the other kills everything.

Do you mind that I added you? Some of your Dr Who rants are amazing.

This is a mass reply:

Song - True Love Ways - Buddy Holly
Quote - "All the love in an instant makes my life stop..." - Mark Kozelek, "Drop"

Song - "A Movie Script Ending" - Death Cab For Cutie

Quote - "Someone out there is meant to be the love of your life, your best friend, your soulmate, the one you can tell your dreams to. he’ll smile at you when you tell him, but he’ll never laugh at your heart. he’ll brush the hair out of your eyes and send you flowers when you least expect it. he’ll call you to tell you goodnight before you get into bed or just because he is thinking about you. he’ll be bursting to talk to you each morning just to hear the sound of your voice. he’ll look into your eyes and tell you that you are the most beautiful girl he has ever seen and for the first time in your life … you’ll believe it."

(a pathetic pop culture turn, I know... but this exchange reminds me of something my beloved once told me)

Beautiful quote! And welcome. I friended you back, as you're a fellow mom who doesn't flood the LJ with posts, and I don't have enough Aussies, and other arbitrary reasons. :)

I know I'm late, but I just thought of my contribution:

Song: "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" -- Death Cab for Cutie

Quote:

"While you are, how am I alone?...
Be, as you have been, my happiness;
Let me sleep beside you, each night, like a spoon;
When, starting from my sleep, I groan to you,
May your “I love you” send me back to sleep."

Pretty poem! And I bet I've heard and enjoyed that Death Cab song...they're played a lot around here; I just seldom remember song titles anymore.
