Mac & FTP

I'm behind the times.
Mac users: what app do you use for FTP? Namely, to upload files or webpages to webspace. I had been using the freeware FTP Thingy, but today it is crashing on me.

I presume there is some easy built-in way to do this (I'm using OS 10.3.9, for what it's worth), but I never find these things out. Just lately learned about the cool F11 feature that whisks all the windows out of the way.

I use Fetch. I have never had any problems with it. If you want, I can provide a serial number for you.

I found this little doc handy when it comes to cool keyboard shortcuts. I can't keep the ones that I use in my head so I printed it out and highlighted the ones I most often need.

You could of course pop open the shell and type:

ftp (address)

like we old fogeys used to do. :)

Ah yes, I have had good luck with Fetch in the past. I think it was the lack of serial number (and me being cheap and being convinced there was a free way to FTP) that stopped me lately. So if a number showed up miraculously in my inbox, that would be super. :)

Thanks for that list of shortcuts too. Got some cool ones in there I certainly never knew existed.

Huh, look at that... I don't know nothin' about no unix, so perhaps it's time I learned. But is there a way to make it look all pretty? So you can click open folders and select the files to upload, say?

If you want a pretty GUI, I'd suggest a program called CyberDuck. That's what I use for FTP. I don't remember where it lives, but given the distinctness of its name I'm sure Google could point you in the right direction pretty quickly.

I use a client called Transit, which is quite nice and does all the clicky folders and everything. I'm cheap and have the unregistered version, which means some things are disabled, but I think a licence is only about $19

I might check out some of the other programmes you've been recommended, though.
