For your Halloween literature needs, check out the page I just discovered:

Horrormasters, an online free library of classical ghost/horror/occult stories. Cross-referenced by type (short story, novella, novel, poetry) and subject matter (ghosts, werewolves, seances, killers and sadists, body parts, etc.). Lovecraft, Poe, Shelley, Stoker, and many I've never heard of. Also some I wouldn't call horror at all - such as Northanger Abbey (teehee!) and Tess of the d'Urbervilles (unless you count crimes against happy endings as a horror device) - but a very cool resource all the same.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to decide which to read next: George MacDonald's Lilith or Walter de la Mare's The Return.

Woohoo, shoutout! :) Actually, all I've read of his so far is The Princess and the Goblin, when I was a kid, but I liked it. The reviews of Lilith said it's up there w/ Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, so I definitely need to give it a read.

Yes! :-) The Princess and the Goblin is dear to my heart. I've always wanted to read Lilith....that's one I'm hoping to check out soon. I also have Phantastes, which I'm very curious about. He was such a huge inspiration to both Lewis and Tolkien, I believe....definitely to Lewis.

Indeed - from what I've read about him, he was a household name for his books (largely for the children's fantasy stories) in the days when Tolkien, Lewis, and the rest of their generation were kids. Seems about time I read more of his work!

Definitely! :-) I completely agree. That will be one of my New Year's resolutions. I think it's a resolution I'll have no trouble keeping. :-)

Thanks for this link! I'm having tremendous fun, trying to find a scary witchcraft story. Or a scary haunted house story; I'm not fussy.
P.S. Love your Narnia icon, I'm glad I'm not the only one counting down the minutes till the film's out!

Aye, I seldom get out to the cinema anymore, as I'm usually willing to wait a few months and save money by renting the DVD, but I think I'll be going out for Narnia. Looks very cool.
Enjoy the archives!
