I don't normally speak of my marriage, just because it's personal, but rest assured I'm lucky and I know it. And since Steve couldn't be here tonight, this Valentine's Day, due to work calling him down to California on short notice, I will fill the time with a little list of things I love about him. They won't be the normal girly schmoopy things like "His hair looks so cute in the morning," or "Best. Kisser. Ever!" Instead I will simply give you...
10 Totally Random Things I *Heart* About 'Teve
He'll read pretty much any book you hand him, or at least give the first few chapters a fair trial.
Sometimes he likes to read while lying on his front on the bed or sofa, with his head over the edge and the book on the floor. At such times he looks a fair amount like Waterhouse's Narcissus. (Just in physical position, not in temperament.)
Every so often, when I point out some plant, he'll pipe up with its Latin name. Latin is HAWT.
He tolerates my Owen Wilson impressions, and even laughs at them.
He once went into this hilarious tirade against the credibility of some weather "expert" on NPR who said that the downpour in California wasn't going to help the drought because "it's like trying to catch a glass of water from a fire hose." (Sample line from tirade: "Oh, what crap. Was he from Santa Barbara? I bet he was from Santa Barbara." No, I don't know what that means either, which only makes it funnier.)
When he's reduced to helpless laughter by something silly on TV or a movie, which is fairly often, he will hug me and haul me down, as if hugging me is relevant somehow to the funny thing.
He's been willing to actually crawl around in the crawlspace of the house, for the sake of fixing stuff. Me, I'd be all, "Yeah, I'll pay someone else to do that."
He remains patient and polite to customer-service people on the phone even when getting the tedious runaround.
He's nice to dogs and cats. That may sound unremarkable, but you know, a lot of people aren't nice to dogs and cats.
He pretty much never holds grudges or loses his temper, and if he does it's usually about something highly entertaining to the rest of us. (See: weather expert, California downpour, 2005.)

G'night, sweet dreams, and I'll leave you with another quotation:
"Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those I love, I can: all of them make me laugh." - W.H. Auden
True dat.

Date: 2005-02-14 09:23 pm (UTC)Yes...we shall need a slow-mo cinematographer and a lot of provocative feathers.
Anyway, I have no doubt you, too, will someday get to write up a scgooshy list of dorky "favorite" things regarding some man in particular. ;) (Their hair really does look cute in the morning...)

Yeah, like that.
I think I could make a list like that about Rachael, but not yet. I still neet to experience more of her idiosyncrasies.

Date: 2005-02-15 06:42 am (UTC)The title quote is one of my long-time favorites. I use it to excuse much of the weirdness/silliness in my marriage. ("Oh, you're wearing the +3 Silk Robe of Sexy!")
